Key Dates:

Week 8: Wednesday 22 March CPS Swimming Carnival at CSHS (Year 3-6 ONLY)

Week 10: Wednesday 5 April – Interschool Swimming Carnival at HBF Stadium (Year 4-6 ONLY)

Swimming Carnival 2023 – Wednesday 22 Marchfrom 9:30am at Churchlands Senior High School.

The Churchlands Primary School Swimming Carnival is on this Wednesday 22 March at Churchlands Senior High School.  This event is for our year 3-6 students.

Today each student should have brought home a program of events, with the events they are participating in highlighted.  The times associated with the events are approximate times, so if we are running early on the schedule we will continue to flow through the events.  Students who wear swimming caps are more than welcome to bring their own to participate in, as no swimming caps will be provided by the school.  Each race will be timed using the Dolphin Timing System which is used by Swimming WA.  All times and places are final, and overall champions for each year group will be decided by the times on the day (not their place in their race).  In the freestyle and breaststroke events, kids can dive in off the blocks or from the edge of the pool. If your child is comfortable starting in the pool, that is encouraged. Please beware that in the past goggles have fallen off when diving in, so you may want to make sure that your child’s goggles are on tight.

We encourage you to come down and support all the kids of CPS who will be giving their best in this event.

A program of events can be viewed here if you would like to share it with family and friends.

Please read below for a little bit more information about the structure of the races.

The structure of this year’s swimming carnival is as follows.

  • In each race there will be TWO swimmers per faction.
  • Each race is allocated the same number of points for the overall team totals .
  • Each race is timed and overall individual standards for champion girls and boys will be determined on their time on the day.
  • Each race is 25m so all times are consistent.
  • Just think of each race being like a heat at a swim meet, it does not matter what race you are in, as you have a chance to be OVERALL CHAMPION.

Running Club

Running club has started off with a bang, with a total of 179km run over the last two weeks.  It is fantastic to see so many kids out, getting their bodies moving early in the morning before a full day of learning.  Just a reminder of our new start time of 8:10 am and running through until 8:40 am.

For new families to Churchlands PS, running club is where students run laps around the oval earning points for their faction. Exercising in the mornings has many health benefits and is a great way to start the day.

Some benefits include:

  • improved physical and mental energy,
  • a better night’s sleep,
  • help maintain a healthy weight
  • reach your fitness goals,
  • enhance your metabolism.

This is a reminder that mugs for Milo need to be placed on the table outside the undercover area before 8.25 am.  Milo is an acknowledgement of the effort put in during running club.

It is encouraged that students need to run at least 5 laps to get a Milo. Turning up late won’t allow enough time to get 5 laps done.

Can you please click on the link and fill in the attached form, so Mr Marshall can organise your QR code card before your first running  club. Kids of all ages are welcome to join in the fun, that is running club.  Remember to bring your QR code to every running club.
