SUSTAINABILITY NEWS

Thank you to Bunnings Innaloo for their generous donation of $150.00. This money will assist in our vegetable planting for the Eco Shed. Bunnings has been a long-standing partner at CPS. They have assisted our school over many years and we greatly appreciate their assistance.

On 20th June, Mrs Samsa made a Solar Buddy presentation to the Rotary Club of Subiaco. Solar Buddy is one of our “giving “projects at CPS.  Rotarians were extremely impressed with the concept behind Solar Buddy and how the program assists in providing solar lights to students in third world countries. The impact of having solar light for students living with energy poverty is three-fold. The lights improve the opportunity for reading at home which positively impacts literacy outcomes. The lights are cleaner than toxic kerosine lights and therefore are safer for childrens’ lungs and the lights are better for children’s vision than reading in semi darkness. CPS has been supporting solar buddy for five years by buying solar lights in kit form which the year 5 students put together as part of their STEAM program. The lights are then packaged up and under the guidance of solar buddy, the lights are sent to a third world country that has no electricity. For more information on solar buddy and the great work this non profit organisation does, go to  https://www.solarbuddy.org/

On Friday 28th July, the year 5 Environmental Officers and parent volunteers will travel to Quairading for an overnight camp. They will be planting trees on salt affected farmland, 25 kilometres out of Quairading.  CPS students and Mrs Samsa have been heading to Quairading for over 10 years. The Quairading community greatly appreciates our assistance and we love the country life experience. Students will be returning late Saturday afternoon. Thank you to Mrs Osterberg for volunteering to assist Mrs Samsa at the camp.
