2024 ATHLETICS CARNIVAL
Welcome to the 2024 Athletics Carnival
Below is an outline of the 3 days of events that will be held during the Churchlands PS Athletics Carnival. Over the last few weeks, the students at CPS have been working tirelessly to improve their skills for the carnival. These 3 days are all about showcasing all the wonderful things they have learnt and improved on over the start of term 3.
Just some things that may be of interest to you for the carnival:
- This is not the Olympics, and all kids are out there trying their best.
- Mistakes will happen on the day and that is all part of learning.
- There is no standing near the finish line. A parents’ area will be marked to help you enjoy the carnival (Wednesday 14 August).
- Ribbons will be presented to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in all individual events.
- Medallions will be presented to Overall Champion and Runner-up students for years 1-6 students. This is determined through their efforts in 4 events: sprint race, middle distance race, long jump and throwing event.
- All students have been timed throughout the term, to help allocate them a sprint race for their age and stage. This was done using Sprint Timer, and information about Sprint Timer can be located here https://apps.apple.com/us/app/sprinttimer-photo-finish/id430807521
- On Friday 9 August all kids at CPS will receive a program of events, with all their events they are competing in, highlighted. Specific times of each event will be on this program.

From 8:50am -10:50am will be a junior carnival for all PP, Year 1 and 2 students. They will be competing in their sprint races and tabloid games. The rest of the school will join at 10.45am for the start of their day. If you are part of the senior school, you are more than welcome to come out to support our junior kids, during the morning.
Running Club
For new families to Churchlands PS, running club is where students run laps around the oval earning points for their faction. Exercising in the mornings has many health benefits and is a great way to start the day.
Some benefits include:
- improved physical and mental energy,
- a better night’s sleep,
- reach your fitness goals,
- enhance your metabolism.
This is a reminder that mugs for Milo must be placed on the table outside the undercover area before 8.25am. Milo is an acknowledgement of the effort put in during running club.
It is encouraged that students need to run at least 5 laps to get a Milo. Turning up late won’t allow enough time to get 5 laps done.
Can you please click on the link and fill in the attached form, so Mr Marshall can organise your QR code card before your first running club. Kids of all ages are welcome to join in the fun, that is running club. Remember to bring your QR code to every running club.
