Art News – Term 3 Week 9

What is happening in the Art Studio Week 9 Term 3…

Liv Crockford Thank you Assembly.

Liv has completed her mural outside the Library and Drama rooms. Working with the year six students she developed the amazing characters and mixed-up critters that are being swept along by the enormous golden wave of imagination, discovery, and creativity.

On the last assembly this term, Friday 20 September, I would like to invite you to come and help celebrate her success, wish her luck for the future, and give her a huge Churchlands ‘thank you.’

I think I might get her to sign it before she goes.

Awesome Arts Festival

2024 Little Impressions Collage

Theme: Art from the Heart

I am excited to announce that our year five students’ artworks, from room ten and eleven, will be displayed in the State Theatre Centre of WA foyer for the duration of the AWESOME Festival public season from Tuesday 24 – Saturday 28 September, 10am – 3pm daily.

Our school community, especially the year five families, are invited to venture into the Perth Cultural Precinct and enjoy our artworks on display and enjoy the festival atmosphere!

Room Nine International Dot Day 15 September

International Dot Day is a global celebration of creativity, courage, and collaboration, observed annually on September 15th. It was inspired by the book The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds, which tells the story of a girl named Vashti who, with the encouragement of her teacher, discovers her artistic potential starting with a simple dot. The book encourages people to “make their mark and see where it takes you,” promoting creativity and self-expression. The day encourages students, teachers, and people around the world to embrace their creativity, take risks, and make a positive impact.

Room nine and Room Eleven experimented with tone and value.  Using photos as a focus reference, the students were inspired to use a range of media to fill circles with interesting marks. Our talented artists could use any media they liked in black, white, and grey tones, such as pens of different thicknesses, black watercolour, charcoal, soft drawing pencils, and non-permanent pens, which the students could smudge with a wet paintbrush. I am so proud of their results and their approached to this Art Exploration.

FUN FUN FUN Whole School Dot Day Challenge

All students and families are invited to create their own dot art on paper, card or cardboard and attach it with tape or Blu tac outside the art/music room on Monday the 16th to show their mark and see where it will lead us all. Use any art materials you may have at home and experiment. What will the Arts Studio look like? Join in to make our statement.

Learning Journey Thank you

It was so wonderful meeting so many parents and their buddying young artists in the studio during the Learning Journey. I was overwhelmed but thoroughly enjoyed your enthusiasm when sharing our Art Studio. Please feel welcome to drop into our studio at pick up or drop off, as you will see the fantastic working space I am privileged to work in at its most creative and craziest. It is truly my most special happy place.
