Chaplain’s Chat – Olympic Fun

The Olympics is upon us!

At school today the faction captains held a junior Olympic challenge covering Gymnastics, Shooting, Track and Field and Football with challenges involving handstands, nerf guns, 100m sprints and penalty shoot outs. Congratulations to the captains for their creativity, independence, and service to create super fun lunch activities. This was based on the Olympic Have-a-Go Competition that you may want to try with your family.

There are plenty of ways that you can get involved as a family. Here is a blog with ideas I enjoyed. Particularly for the focus on choosing family favourites, researching history as well as local heroes.

Through the Olympics, I appreciate that my children can be exposed to the wonder of human achievement in so many varied sports, some of which they have never heard of or seen until now.

In our house, we are into tennis. We are following our families’ favourite tennis personalities to see how far they go. Like other tournaments the Olympics motivates her to persist in her own practice and inspires her to dream. Regardless of how far she develops in tennis, the Olympics adds to the enjoyment and excitement of her involvement; and both the physical and mental health benefits of sport are well known.

For busy family life, here are my go to links for Australian highlights. I google ‘the 90 seconds you need wwos.nine.com.au’ for daily video updates or https://www.nine.com.au Olympics day #’ for daily articles with key video links for day 1,2,3 or 4 so far.

Wishing you and your family lots of fun during the Olympics!
