CPS Frog Pond Projects - Year 6
Herdsman Lake Biodiversity
Year 6 students took on the challenge of finding solutions to restore native vegetation disturbed by natural events and human activity, useful knowledge when designing a school Frog Pond.
Students endeavoured to re-create their own ‘slice’ of Herdsman Lake by gaining a deep understanding of the biodiversity contained in the area, how native vegetation is impacted by humans, and what combination of species would set up the new environment to thrive.
As part of the investigation, students researched and analysed the history, including indigenous ties, of the local landscape through field research, satellite imagery, archival images and other sourced information. They then used digital tools, such as spreadsheets and online forums to collate, present and share their data.
